DPS SAYS GRIMES COUNTY MAN DRUNK AT TIME OF FATAL ACCIDENT

  

A Plantersville man has been identified as the victim of a fatal head-on collision Tuesday night in Grimes County.

The Department of Public Safety reports that 33-year-old Aquiles Castro-Hernandez was intoxicated when his pickup struck a passenger car on FM-1174, about two miles south of Plantersville, killing Castro-Hernandez.

Authorities say Castro-Hernandez was traveling north on F.M. 1174 at about 10:30 p.m.at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Ford pickup, left the roadway and overcorrected into the southbound lane.

His vehicle then struck a passenger car head on, sending that driver, 20-year-old Kaitlynn Breiner of The Woodlands, to Memorial Hermann Hospital in  Houston, where she is in serious condition with a number of severe injuries

Breiner is a junior at Texas A&M, majoring in Civil Engineering.

Castro-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
