Brenham police stopped a vehicle driving on Market Street with no headlights at 9 pm last night.  When Officer Steven Eilert approached the truck, he could see the driver moving his hand between the seat and the center console.  The driver, Kenneth Brooks Helmer, 27 of Brenham, explained that he didn’t have his driver’s license with him.   A records check reviled that his driver’s license was invalid due to previous convictions.  Helmer was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.

During an inventory of the truck, several small plastic bags were found that contained a white residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine.  Helmer has been charged with possession of under a gram of a controlled substance in a drug free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license invalid with previous convictions.  Helmer was arrested in March of this year for possession of meth and evading arrest after he tried fleeing from a traffic stop on a motorcycle.
