EAST TEXAS FIRE COULD BRING HAZE

While the forecast calls for mostly sun for today, Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker says a wildfire in Jefferson County in East Texas may put a haze in the air.

The latest satellite imagery shows the Jefferson County wildfire continuing burning hot.  Areas along the coast have had a distinct burning odor present throughout the day and some locations closer to the fire have seen surface visibility restrictions due to smoke.

With daytime heating, smoke has been allowed to rise well above the surface the further one gets from the fire itself.  As the sun goes down, however, a low level temperature inversion will quickly set up which will essentially cause any associated smoke to become trapped closer to the ground.  Throughout the day transport winds have slightly veered to an east to west direction.  This could put the haze over Brenham, Washington County and the rest of the Brazos Valley.
