2019’s graduating class includes C.W. Dein and Kayla Robinson of Brenham, Elizabeth Katie Everitt of Bryan, Lauren Reistino of College Station, Hayley Fernandez of Cedar Park, Colton Kemp of Portland, Sara Marshall of Rogers, and Jason Mendez of Geronimo.

Surgical technologists are an integral part of the surgical team, assisting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and registered nurses in providing care to patients in the operating room. They ensure a safe operating environment, make sure equipment works properly, and ensure operative procedures are performed in conditions that maximize patient safety.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for surgical technologists is expected to increase 12 percent between 2016 and 2026, creating 12,600 new jobs during that span. The median wage is $47,300 per year nationwide.

Program Director Linda Hill said surgical technology is a “specialized field”, and the skills students learn at Blinn “prepare them to safeguard the lives of the people entrusted to their care”.
