EMBANKMENT ROAD BETWEEN LAKE SOMERVILLE MARINA, WELCH PARK TO STAY CLOSED UNTIL JUNE

The embankment road between Lake Somerville Marina and Campground and Welch Park will remain closed until the summer.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that at the request of the City of Brenham, the road will stay closed until June.

Assistant City Manager of Public Services and Utilities Donald Reese said the city is currently working to repair its water intake structure after it suffered heavy damage during the floods of 2016.  He said the work involves large amounts of heavy equipment and truck traffic, so the road is not safe for the public.

The USACE said it will be necessary to continue to keep the roadway closed until repairs are complete, in order to ensure public safety.

The water intake project is contracted to Lindsey Construction for just under $5 million.

Visitors to the lake that will be in or near the water are encouraged to wear a life jacket and follow COVID-19 protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Somerville Lake Office can be contacted by calling 979-596-1622.

  1. When you receive tax dollars as opposed to tourist money you dont have to be in a hurry…its been 2 years closed and is a stretch 500 yards long.

  2. I am so tired of the corps and the city both. They are trying to make it hard for Washington county residents to use there own lake. Come on man!!!!!!!
