DESCRIPTION:The 12th Annual (Covid Delayed) Beginning Beekeeping School is set for March 26\, 2022. Registration is open at www.tinyurl.com/2022BeeSchool. \nThe school is open to anyone who is interested in bees. We have classes for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced beekeepers. \nOur topics range from “Where Do I Get Bees” and “What Do I Buy” to “Raising Queens” and “Harvesting Honey”. \nWeather permitting\, there will be live bee hives where you can suit up and watch as an experienced beekeeper shows you brood\, honey and maybe even the queen. \nThe full day school starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 5:30 p.m. You will be served a full bar-b-que meal with Blue Bell Ice Cream for dessert. Everyone will receive a door prize with the large door prizes being given away at the end of the day. \nWe expect around 35 vendors with lots of bee-related items to purchase. \nAll of us are aware of how the world has changed. In response\, all state and local guidelines and policies in effect will be followed the day of the school. As before\, if we are required to cancel the school\, you will receive a full refund of your payment. \nFor more information\, click on the link above or email: centraltexasbeekeepers@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Freedom Colonies Exhibit at Brenham Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Brenham Heritage Museum invites the public to attend their new Freedom Colonies exhibit at the Bus Depot Gallery.  The exhibit entitled “Freedom Colonies: Tracing Historic Black Settlements of Washington County” explores the stories of former slaves and descendants who established entire local communities following their Emancipation.  Little is known about much of the African-American experience in those post-Civil War years\, and museum officials say that they look forward to introducing that history to a new audience.  The Gallery is open every Saturday from 10am-4pm. Other visitation times are available by appointment.  The Freedom Colonies Exhibit runs through March 26. \nIn conjunction with the exhibit will be the first installment of the Seth McMeans Lecture Series on Monday\, February 28\, at noon in the Bus Depot Gallery.  The guest speaker is Dr. Andrea Roberts of Texas A&M University. She will explore a half dozen of the largest Freedom Colonies in Washington County.  Dr. Roberts will provide both overall background and specifics about the local communities.  The Seth McMeans Lecture Series is free to all Brenham Heritage Museum members and only $5 for non-members.  For more information\, visit their website at www.brenhamheritagemuseum.org.

SUMMARY:Independence Historical Society Historic Homes Tours
DESCRIPTION:The Independence Historical Society will be conducting FREE tours of the historic homes between 10:00–4:00 on Saturday\, March 19 and 26 and Saturday\, April 2 and 9.  IHS docents will lead tours through the John P. Coles House built in 1820.  Coles was one of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old 300” settlers and the house is furnished from that period.  Children can play school in the Old Gay Hill school house and visitors to the dog trop Log Cabin will see a loom and other implements from the period.  There will be a black smith in action\, stitchers on the porch\, and live dulcimer music.  Step back in time to the early days of Texas and see what life was like for these early Texans.  Young and old will enjoy these tours in a beautiful spot near Old Baylor in Independence.  For information\, email ihsindependencetexas1836@gmail.com or look for us on Facebook.
