SUMMARY:Multi-County New Landowner Educational Series
DESCRIPTION:The Multi-County New Landowner Education program is a series of 7 informational meetings\, seminars\, and field days designed to make new landowners in Austin\, Colorado\, Fayette\, & Washington Counties aware of what types of agricultural enterprises are best for their property.  Participants in the program will hear from experts in a variety of fields in agriculture about best management practices that can be implemented on their own property.  This innovative program assists new landowners in understanding the concepts of rural living.  Participants in the program are given exposure to ideas on raising livestock and horses\, plant identification\, fence building\, applying pesticides\, soil testing\, stock pond management\, pond construction\, fruit and nut production\, rainwater harvesting\, turf management\, and much more.  The program also serves as a way for new residents of the four counties to network and meet new people in their communities\, find out what can be done on their land\, what operations can be successful\, and possibly what opportunities they have to serve the community. \nThe programs will be held on the third Friday of the months of February through May (no program in April) and August through November.  Each month’s meeting will be held at different locations in one of the four counties. The meetings begin at 1:30pm and will last between 4 and 5 hours depending on the topic and possible tour stops.  The cost for the program series is $125.00 per person\, $200.00 per couple for all seven meetings\, $20.00 per person per meeting.  Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for pesticide applicators will be offered as they are applicable.  A great selection of refreshments will be provided at each session.  Participants who sign up for the entire series will receive a notebook at the beginning of the series to fill as we progress through the program with handouts and reference material that will be useful as they move forward with improvements on their property. \nFebruary 18th – Introduction and Program Overview – Ag & Wildlife Valuations\nMarch 18th – Weed & Brush Control – Plant Identification and Control Recommendations for Common Weeds and Brush\nApril 15th – NO CLASS\nMay 20th – Pond Management – Construction\, Aquatic Weed Control\, and Stocking\nAugust 19th – Horticulture Production – Fruit Trees\, Pecans\, and Grapes for Landowners\nSeptember 16th – Forage &/or Livestock Production – Options for Small Acreage Operations\nOctober 21st – Wildlife Management and Native Prairie Restoration\nNovember 18th – Bees and Trees for Homeowners \nFor more information\, please contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in Austin County (979-865-2072)\, Colorado County (979-732-2082)\, Fayette County (979-968-5831)\, or Washington County (979-277-6212).  Registration materials and more information can also be found on our website\, https://washington.agrilife.org/nlo    \n

DESCRIPTION:Winedale’s upcoming quilt show\, “Connecting Threads: New Acquisitions in the Winedale Quilt Collection\,” will be open the weekends of Feb. 18-20 and Feb. 25-27. In this exhibition\, five new acquisitions engage in conversation with previously acquired pieces from the Winedale Quilt Collection. Highlighted in this display are quilts from the Briscoe Center’s third and largest significant quilt acquisition\, a collection assembled by quilt historian and author Joyce Gross (1924–2012). The exhibit also showcases the work of quiltmaker and fiber artist Beth Thomas Kennedy (1941–2021)\, who made extraordinary contributions to the art and craft of traditional and contemporary quiltmaking. \nFri. DESCRIPTION:With help from local artists\, Main Street Brenham will again bring art to the streets of Downtown Brenham. Professional\, amateur and student artists may participate. Entry forms are available online at https://cityofbrenham.online/springeggs. Entry forms can also be picked up at the Washington County Visitor Center (115 West Main). Completed entry forms for the Spring Eggs Art Walk are due Friday\, March 4 by 5 p.m. \nOther deadlines include: \n\nPick up wooden Egg Cut-Outs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday\, February 28-Friday\, March 18 at City Hall. Contact Nancy Joiner if other arrangements need to be made.\nCompleted Eggs are due to be delivered to display locations Thursday\, March 24 and Friday\, March 25 by 5 p.m. These locations will be provided to each artist via email.\nSpring Eggs Art Walk voting takes place from Saturday\, March 26-Saturday\, April 16\, with ballots available at participating sponsor locations and online.\nWinners will be announced Wednesday\, April 19. \n\nEgg art designs should be creative and innovative\, yet appropriate for an audience that will encompass all ages.
