SUMMARY:Main Street Brenham Launches the Spring Eggs Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:With help from local artists\, Main Street Brenham will again bring art to the streets of Downtown Brenham. Professional\, amateur and student artists may participate. Entry forms are available online at https://cityofbrenham.online/springeggs. Entry forms can also be picked up at the Washington County Visitor Center (115 West Main). Completed entry forms for the Spring Eggs Art Walk are due Friday\, March 4 by 5 p.m. \nOther deadlines include: \n\nPick up wooden Egg Cut-Outs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday\, February 28-Friday\, March 18 at City Hall. Contact Nancy Joiner if other arrangements need to be made.\nCompleted Eggs are due to be delivered to display locations Thursday\, March 24 and Friday\, March 25 by 5 p.m. These locations will be provided to each artist via email.\nSpring Eggs Art Walk voting takes place from Saturday\, March 26-Saturday\, April 16\, with ballots available at participating sponsor locations and online.\nWinners will be announced Wednesday\, April 19. \n\nEgg art designs should be creative and innovative\, yet appropriate for an audience that will encompass all ages. The Spring Eggs Art Walk is an interactive event and\, as such\, designs should be created with durability and public safety concerns in mind. \nOnce again\, Kieke Egg Farm will sponsor a Best of Show prize of $200. Two categories will be judged\, Professional (18+ and older) and Student (18 and under). Winners in all categories will receive $125. \nSponsors in the Professional category are: Most Creative\, Brown Water Cigar Bar; Most Votes\, Hermann Furniture; Judges’ Choice\, The Pomegranate/Fork & Crumb; Best Easter Theme\, Ninety Six West; and Best Seasonal Theme\, Tres Chic Boutique. \nSponsors in the Student category are: Most Creative\, Brenham Floral; Most Votes\, The Canyon Chick; Judges’ Choice\, Las Americas Latin Cuisine; Best Easter Theme\, Must Be Heaven; and Best Seasonal Theme\, Glamfetti.

SUMMARY:Winedale's Quilt Show
DESCRIPTION:Winedale’s upcoming quilt show\, “Connecting Threads: New Acquisitions in the Winedale Quilt Collection\,” will be open the weekend Feb. 25-27. In this exhibition\, five new acquisitions engage in conversation with previously acquired pieces from the Winedale Quilt Collection. Highlighted in this display are quilts from the Briscoe Center’s third and largest significant quilt acquisition\, a collection assembled by quilt historian and author Joyce Gross (1924–2012). The exhibit also showcases the work of quiltmaker and fiber artist Beth Thomas Kennedy (1941–2021)\, who made extraordinary contributions to the art and craft of traditional and contemporary quiltmaking. \nFri. SUMMARY:Freedom Colonies Exhibit at Brenham Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Brenham Heritage Museum invites the public to attend their new Freedom Colonies exhibit at the Bus Depot Gallery.  The exhibit entitled “Freedom Colonies: Tracing Historic Black Settlements of Washington County” explores the stories of former slaves and descendants who established entire local communities following their Emancipation.  Little is known about much of the African-American experience in those post-Civil War years\, and museum officials say that they look forward to introducing that history to a new audience.  The Gallery is open every Saturday from 10am-4pm. Other visitation times are available by appointment.  The Freedom Colonies Exhibit runs through March 26. \nIn conjunction with the exhibit will be the first installment of the Seth McMeans Lecture Series on Monday\, February 28\, at noon in the Bus Depot Gallery.  The guest speaker is Dr. Andrea Roberts of Texas A&M University. She will explore a half dozen of the largest Freedom Colonies in Washington County.  Dr. Roberts will provide both overall background and specifics about the local communities.  The Seth McMeans Lecture Series is free to all Brenham Heritage Museum members and only $5 for non-members.  For more information\, visit their website at www.brenhamheritagemuseum.org.
