EXCESS RAINFALL LEADS TO WATER RELEASE FOR LAKE SOMERVILLE

As of Thursday afternoon, Lake Somerville was at 242.63 feet – over four feet higher than what is considered “full” (238 feet). The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that oversee Lake Somerville opened the spillways on Monday to allow over 11,000 gallons per/second to flow downstream.

According to the Brazos River Authority website, the Brazos River near Bryan rose over 15 feet from March 9tht o March 13th due to the excessive rainfall. As of Wednesday, the river gage height was at 27 feet compared to the 40 feet it was at on the 13th.

Last week’s storm caused major flooding to many area roads and Governor Greg Abbott even declared 17 counties disaster areas.
