FALLEN FIREFIGHTER TO BE HONORED
Lt. Greg Pickard, the Bryan firefighter who lost his life battling the deadly Knights of Columbus fire last February, will be honored posthumously in Indianapolis next month.
They Ray Downey Award for Courage and Valor will be awarded to Pickard’s family at the Fire Department’s Instruction Conference on April 9th. This award is named for a New York City Firefighter who lost his life in a rescue effort during the September 11th 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. It is given to people who give extraordinary efforts to help others.
Bryan firefighter Eric Wallace also died in that blaze. Firefighter Ricky Mantey of Caldwell and Mitch Moran were severely injured in the fire. Moran recently returned to work..
