FAYETTE CO. MAN FILES FOR DISTRICT 13 SEAT

  

A Fayette County man has filed to run for the January 12th District-13 special election.

Cecil Webster of Carmine filed for the seat Tuesday, the day after former State Representative Lois Kolkhorst was sworn in as the new State Senator for District-18.

Webster has been active in Fayette County politics for years, having served as chair of the Fayette County Democratic Party, a regional trainer, a delegate to numerous Texas Democratic Party conventions, and a delegate to the 2012 national Democratic convention.  More recently, Webster ran unsuccessfully for Fayette County judge in the November 4th election.

Webster is one of five people expected to run for the seat, including:  Former Brenham Marine Daniel McCarthy, Burleson County attorney Leighton Schubert, Schulenburg business woman Becky Berger. And Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski.

Candidates have until 5:00 p.m. Monday, to file for the special election with the Secretary of State’s office.

Early voting for the special election begins on Monday, Jan 5th.

House District 13 includes Washington, Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, and Lavaca counties.
