FAYETTE CO. S.O. K9 LOBOS RETIRES AFTER EIGHT YEARS

A highly-decorated member of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has retired after highly-prolific career.

Sgt. Randy Thumann and Lobos. (Fayette Co. Sheriff's Office)

Lobos, a Belgian Malinois who has led to the seizure of millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs  in Fayette County, is retiring after eight years.

Lobos, who is nine years old, was half of the Fayette County sheriff’s K-9 and drug interdiction unit, along with Sgt. Randy Thumann.

Since pairing up in 2011, Thumann and Lobos made dozens of seizures of narcotics and cash along Interstate 10, one of the largest drug trafficking corridors in the nation.

In 2018 alone, Lobos uncovered over 33 kilos of methamphetamine, 16 kilos of cocaine and 290 pounds of marijuana.

In 2016, Lobos and Thumann busted a Human Trafficking operation.

Lobos will spend his retirement on a ranch with a relative of Thumann’s.

Thumann is continuing his work with a new dog, 16-month-old Kolt.

Thumann says it’s hard to replace a partner as prolific as Lobos, but he says he’s confident Kolt can be just as good, if not better.

  1. Great work Lobos on cutting down the drug trafficking in that area! Kolt has big paws to fill, but I’m sure Sgt. Thumann will have him in tip top shape. Keep up the good work!

  2. Great story and Lobos has definitely earned his time of relaxation and just having fun running free maybe eating some lobo steaks!
Wish the puppy Kolt t the best!
