FIRE DEPARTMENT EXPENDITURES

Brenham City Manager Terry Roberts says the city council is expected to allow expenditures for two new fire trucks and a possible fire substation even though the financing is not in place, when they meet this 9Thursday) afternoon at city hall.

Part of the property tax hike in this year’s city budget was to buy bonds for two new fire trucks.  Roberts says these trucks could cost as much as $1.4 million.  He says they will eventually get the financing for them.   He says it is premature to talk about the actual construction of a fire substation but the council needs to prepare for a purchase of some expensive land along highway 290.

Roberts knows it is the time for the council to consider his contract. He knows they will go into executive session to discuss his contract during Thursday’s meeting.  Roberts began his stint as Brenham City Manager in February of 2001.  He says however, the city charter requires he be re-hired each year.

The Brenham City Council meets this afternoon ( Thursday) at four at city hall.  The later time is for a Boy Scouts troop to come to the meeting.
