FOCUSED CARE AT BRENHAM REPORTING EIGHT POSITIVE, TWO ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES

Another nursing facility in Brenham has reported positive cases of COVID-19, but a majority of its cases have recovered.

Focused Care at Brenham has confirmed three positive tests in residents and five in staff members as of Thursday.  However, of the eight positive cases, there are currently only two that remain active, both in residents.

According to Focused Care spokeswoman Rebecca Reid, the three residents that tested positive were all transferred to Focused Care at Baytown, which currently cares only for COVID-19 positive residents.  One returned to Brenham on Tuesday after testing negative twice, while two others will return pending their two negative follow-up tests.

According to Reid, all five staff members that tested positive have returned to work.  The first staff member at Focused Care tested positive on July 13th, while the first resident tested positive on July 20th and was transferred to Focused Care at Baytown the same day.  The other two residents that tested positive did so the last week of July.  Reid said no positive cases were found in Brenham staff members the last time they were all tested at once on July 23rd.

Reid said Focused Care follows guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as local and state health department protocols.  She said all 31 of Focused Care’s long-term care communities have implemented the usage of MediClean Pro disinfectant solution and equipment approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean and disinfect surfaces.  In addition, according to Reid, Focused Care has also partnered with a private lab to expedite testing and results.

Residents who test positive are quarantined and relocated to Baytown, where they remain until they test negative twice.  Residents who have potentially been in contact with those who test positive are quarantined and monitored for symptoms.
