FORMER BHS CROSS-COUNTRY STAR MATTHEW SPAHN DIES

Former Brenham High School Cross-Country runner Matthew Spahn has died.

Spahn passed away this (Wednesday) morning at 11:10 a.m. at Temple Scott and White Hospital.  He was 21 years old.

Spahn suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car early in the morning on October 7th, while walking in the 2600 block of Gun and Rod Road in Brenham.

According to Brenham Police Detective Joseph Merkley, the case is still being investigated, so he could not give details on if the driver that struck Spahn will face charges.

Spahn was a state qualifier at Brenham High School, and would go on to run at Pratt Community College.

The family of Spahn is potentially looking to use Brenham High School for a memorial service, but a date has not been set.

The family has a GoFundMe account set up for anyone interested in donating, at https://www.gofundme.com/68bq23c.

  1. Matthew was such a sweet young man. I can vividly remember his bright smile and willingness to do whatever was asked of him. He was a respectful and kind young man and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have known him while he attended BJHS. My prayers are with his family and friends and I know that he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
