FORMER BRENHAM SYNAGOGUE SET FOR REDEDICATION

The B’nai Abraham synagogue, which was recently moved from its home in Brenham to its new home at the Dell Jewish Community Campus in  Austin, has been restored and is one step closer to be rededicated.

The synagogue, which was moved from its original home in Brenham in January and February, has faced many challenges on its way to this point.

The building was used for storage for around 40 years, and is closed to returning to its former glory.

Leon Toubin and his wife Mimi, who arranged and helped pay for the move of the building says the building looks “fantastic,” with the building now being one step closer to being used as a shul.

Many old documents were found in drawers such as old receipts from a 1935 donation to a Jerusalem soup kitchen and an old 29 cent jar of gold paint used to touch up the Ten Commandments tablets above the ark.

The restored synagogue will be home for Saturday and High Holy Day services for Tiferet Israel, an Orthodox congregation, and is set for a dedication date of August 30.

There is an October wedding plan for the new building.
