A Brenham veterinarian who posted a photo of herself on Facebook with a cat she claimed she’d shot with an arrow has been no-billed by the Austin County Grand Jury.

After the case was presented Wednesday morning at the Austin County courthouse, the Grand Jury decided that no charges would be filed against Kristen Lindsey.

After the photo was posted, the ensuing uproar led to Lindsey’s firing from the Washington Animal Clinic on Highway 36 North.

The Austin County Sheriff's Office conducted an animal cruelty investigation into Lindsey, then turned the case over to the Austin County District Attorney's Office who made the Grand Jury presentation Wednesday.

The no-bill finding means the Grand Jury determined there was not enough evidence that any crime was committed.

Lindsey claimed the cat in question was feral, while animal rights protestors claim the cat was a pet named “Tiger”.

A handful of protestors armed with numerous signs camped out in front of the Austin County courthouse in Bellville throughout much of the morning.

  1. The prosecuters office failed miserably in this case. They did not even consult with the American Veterinary Association. They were waiting to be contacted in regards to this matter. Austin County citizens, clean up the justice division of your court house, next time a case involving a person may be in the hands of your prosecutor.

  2. Thank goodness there are still a few sane people left in the world!! My goodness people, she killed a cat and then posted on social media. Poor taste? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!!! Criminal? Don’t think so. Good job Austin County!!! Yall make me proud to be your neighbor!!

  3. I don’t have a problem with the jury’s decision as that is why we have a jury of our peers. I am however disappointed in Ms. Lindsey’s conduct as a vet, posting such a think on Facebook, and I feel it was a cruel thing to do and then brag about it. I am sure she has learned a heard lesson and I wish her well. This won’t be the last time people post things on Facebook that get them into trouble.

  4. Kristen Lindsey will have to live in fear of her life the rest of her life for what the public thinks she did.

  5. I’m not really surprised about this ruling. Austin Co. DA not really gonna do anything. There are bigger things that they have to worry about!!

  6. Another shameful chapter in the history of this state. I question the mentality of persons who care so little for Gods creatures.

    1. I disagree completely, this is a shameful chapter in the life of one person who made a mistake that she has hopefully learned from. This is not a shameful chapter in the history of this state or of Austin/Washington Counties. Ms. Lindsey has paid a high price which cost her the job she had, public shame, and it is likely she will have a hard time finding future employment in her chosen profession. The Grand Jury wisely decided not to waste the resources of our criminal justice system on someone who is unlikely to repeat her actions and who probably did not have a criminal intent.

    2. If wild kitty cats were never killed, they would eat all the mice and rats and snakes and a large portion of small birds. Some would starve and suffer from malnutrition while others would learn to form packs to be able to hunt larger animals. Then they would learn to waite outside of your houses and pounce on FeFe the poodle when she runs out to do her buisness.

  7. It appears that the Grand Jury in Austin County wasn’t influenced by all the public outcry about this case. They Grand Jury examined the case using the guidelines in the law and found no probable cause existed for charges to be filled. Good job!
