FORMER BRENHAM VET WANTING RECORDS CLEARED, TAKING CASE TO TEXAS SUPREME COURT

Kristen Lindsey

Attorneys for a former Brenham veterinarian are asking the Texas Supreme Court to reverse her punishment for killing a cat with a bow and arrow.

Kristen Lindsey has petitioned the Texas Supreme Court to appeal restrictions on her veterinary license.  The petition is still pending review, according to Alley Cat Allies, an animal rights organization that participated at her appeal to the Third Court of Appeals earlier this year.

Lindsey was placed on probation for four years, and her veterinary license suspended for one year, in 2016 by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.  She was also fired from her job at a local veterinary clinic, after posting a photo on social media of her holding up a cat with an arrow through its head.  Lindsey said in court she believed the cat was feral.

The Board of Examiners initially voted to revoke Lindsey’s license in early hearings, before settling on the current punishment.  Lindsey’s suspension ended in October 2017, but she is still on probation.

The Third Court of Appeals upheld the Board’s decision earlier this year, which prompted Lindsey to ask the Texas Supreme Court to consider the case.  They are expected to decide soon whether to move forward with the appeal.

Lindsey’s attorneys have said that the veterinary board “lacks the authority to discipline her”, because its authority falls in line with cases concerning practice of medicine or conduct akin to animal cruelty.  Lindsey was not indicted on animal cruelty charges, when before an Austin County grand jury earlier this year.
