FORMER CUB MAKES AAA DEBUT
A former Brenham Cubs pitcher made his AAA debut Tuesday night.
Left-handed pitcher Jason Gurka of Chappel Hill, started game two of Tuesday’s double header between the Norfolk Tides and the Lehigh Iron Pigs.
Gurka was given the call-up Monday to the Tides, the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles’ system.
Gurka started the game and gave up two earned runs on four hits in two-and-two-thirds innings pitches. He struck out one Iron Pigs hitter. Lehigh won the game, 4-1.
Gurka was 2-1 in 13 games with the Bowie Baysox, the Orioles’ AA affiliate. In 35.2 innings pitched he struck out 32 and walked nine.
Gurka was selected in the 15th round of the 2008 draft by the Orioles.
