FORMER CUBETTES PLAYING IN NJCAA SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

A pair of former Brenham Cubette softball teammates could square off in the NJCAA Division I Softball Tournament.

Former Cubettes’ shortstop Brette Kohring of Angelina Junior College and first baseman Madilyn Weatherly of Temple Junior College helped lead their teams to the tournament being held in St. George, Utah.

Temple (46-9), the defending national champion, is the #6-seed; while, Angelina (40-11) is the #12-seed.

In the first round, Angelina upset #5-seed Salt Lake, 7-5 in eight innings.  Temple downed #11-Chatanooga St., 8-0.

Kohring was 0-4 for the Roadrunners.  She is hitting .405 on the season, with five home runs, 29 runs scored and 48 runs-batted-in.

Weatherly, who has committed to Sam Houston St., was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.  She is hitting .386 this season, with 14 home runs, 45 runs scored and 75 runs-batted-in.

In Thursday’s round two, Angelina faces Indian Hills and Temple takes on Chipola.  Both games begin at 3:30 (CDT).
