FORMER KWHI ANNOUNCER, LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER CLYDE AVERITT DIES

A former Brenham business owner, Korean War veteran, and announcer on KWHI has died.

Clyde Averitt died October 15th at the age of 86.

Averitt opened a local printing business, Printing Services, in 1984, and operated the business until selling it in 1997.  He also worked as a part-time country disc-jockey on KWHI from 1972 to 1981, and was popularly known as “Country Clyde.”

During the Korean War, Averitt joined the U.S. Navy and served three tours of duty in Korea.  After an honorable discharge, he was employed by the Houston Chronicle and later, Bud Hadfield Printers.  He was one of the early founders of Kwik-Kopy Corporation in 1966, and retired from Kwik-Kopy in 1981 as Vice President of Training.

Averitt was a past commander and life member of the VFW Post 7104, and was also a member of the American Legion Post 48.  He donated a bell to the Washington County Veterans Association to be sounded on Veterans Day with a poem he wrote, “Ring the Bell Loudly.”  He also served as a board member of the Brenham Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and was a member of the Washington County and City of Brenham Citizens on Patrol.

Funeral services will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.
