FOUR BUCS NAME ALL-REGION XIV; TEASE NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE

Blinn College basketball’s Kai Tease earns all-region and all-conference accolades

Four Blinn College basketball players claimed Region XIV honor after leading the Buccaneers to a 21-10 record during the 2018-19 season.

Sophomore Kai Tease (Sacramento, Calif.) was named all-region and all-conference, freshman Tristan Ikpe (Deer Park) was named all-conference, and freshman AJ Rainey (Gray, La.) and JaQuan Morris (Suwannee, Ga.) earned honorable mention.

“I am proud of the seasons that Tease, Ikpe, Rainey and Morris had and they deserve these honors,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “They played an instrumental role in our winning season by leading our team in points, rebounds and assists.”

Tease was the leading scorer for the Buccaneers with 16.4 points per game, and scored a season-high 28 points against the Houston Gladiators on Feb. 9, while Ikpe was the team’s leading rebounder with 7.5 per game and ranked fourth on the team with 10.1 points per game. He recorded five double-doubles and tallied a season-high 25 points against Lee College on Feb. 2.

Morris earned honorable mention in a season in which he ranked second on the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game, while Rainey earned it after leading the team with 4.9 assists per game and scoring 10.9 points per game.

In addition to Blinn finishing the season with a 21-10 overall record, the Buccaneers posted an 8-9 record in Region XIV play. They finished the season with a 69-68 loss to Kilgore College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament.
