Four cows were killed after they were hit by a vehicle early Sunday morning on Highway 290, just east of Chappell Hill.
DPS Sergeant Alease Wilson said around 2:30 a.m., a U-Haul truck was headed westbound on Highway 290 when the driver struck the cattle that were in the roadway.
Sgt. Wilson said the driver was taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
The road was shut down for several hours as TxDOT removed the cows from the road.
Sgt. Wilson said no tags or brands were found on the cattle. Authorities onsite were unable to find the owner of the cows.
