FOUR WASHINGTON COUNTY ROAD PROJECTS RANK HIGH ON REGIONAL LIST

Four road projects in Washington County have been identified among the top 20 projects for transportation improvements in the Brazos Valley.

The Brazos Valley Council of Governments Regional Transportation Planning Committee recently finalized its project list which contains a total of 41 projects.

The top priority project in Washington County (and number 3 overall) is adding shoulders on FM 50 from Highway 105 to the Burleson County line.

The next prioritize project in the county (ranked number 8 on the project list) is reconfiguring the U.S. 290-Highway 36 Loop cloverleaf in Brenham.

The third prioritize project in Washington County (and number 14 overall) is the widening of Highway 105 to four lanes from Brenham to the Grimes County line.

The reconfiguring of frontage roads along the U.S. 290 Loop from FM 389 to the Old Mill Creek Bridge is the fourth project listed for Washington County (and ranked number 19 on the project list).

The committee used a point system to rank each project, with initial points awarded for safety, mobility, asset management, multi-modal connections and stewardship. Additional points were given for the number of accidents, congestion, regional connectivity, freight movement, and local funding support.

The widening of a bridge over the Brazos River on U.S. 79 in Robertson County ranked number one overall on the project list. The second ranked project was completing safety improvements to Highway 6 in Grimes County, between Navasota and the Waller County line.

The committee will now present the project list to the Texas Department of Transportation. TXDOT will then use the plans to determine which projects to fund.

  1. I know of 2 roads still affected from the floods that are not complete 36 close to 1948 and Christian Cemetery Road going around a curve. When are they going to be fixed? As Brenhamite said WM and Bluebonnet Shopping Center but I also think of South Day close to the CVS exit.

  2. I’m wondering when they plan to do something about the situation on Hwy 36 South at the Walmart and Bluebonnet Shopping Center junction. Yes, the turn lane in the southbound lane helps but people are also trying to use that lane from the northbound direction to turn into the Bluebonnet Center. Its just an accident waiting to happen.
