FUNERAL SERVICES SCHEDULED NEXT WEEK FOR DPS TROOPER KILLED DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Funeral services have been scheduled next week for a DPS Trooper who was shot while on duty near Mexia.

State Trooper Chad Walker
(Texas DPS)

Public visitation for Trooper Chad Walker will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home, 1215 East Yeagua Street, on Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Groesbeck High School Football Stadium, 1202 North Ellis Street.  Burial will follow at LaSalle Cemetery on FM 1953.

Walker, originally from Groesbeck, was hospitalized last Friday in critical condition at Baylor Scott and White in Waco after being shot in the head and abdomen while responding to a motorist assist call.  On Monday, DPS said Walker no longer had signs of viable brain activity, but the agency said he would remain on life support until he could donate his organs.

The suspected shooter, 36-year-old DeArthur Pinson, Jr., was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday at a home west of Mexia.

Walker is survived by his wife, 15-year-old son, twin seven-year-old daughters, and a two-month-old daughter.  A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist his family.
