H.F. POEHLMANN FILES FOR BLINN BOARD

The Blinn Board of Trustees now has a contested race.

H.F. Poehlmann filed Tuesday for at-large Position 3. Last month, Dr. Dennis Crowson announced his candidacy for the position currently held by David Sommer, who will not be running for re-election after seven years on the board.

Poehlmann is a former Blinn College student, faculty member, and administrator. She has taught for over 36 years, teaching English at Blinn for 27 years.  At Blinn, she served as an active member of several division, institution, and state committees and organizations.

Poehlmann also served as president of the Blinn College Professional Association, and as the first chair of the Professional Development Committee. In addition, she was selected by students and faculty as recipient of the 2006 “Teaching Excellence Award for Blinn College” as teacher of the year.  Her husband, Luther, was a founding officer of the College’s Athletic Alumni Association.

Poehlmann said Blinn has been a key part of her life and family, and that her career goal has always been to champion student learning. She said she wants to continue the efforts of past and present trustees, keeping with her values of quality education.

Two other spots on the Blinn board are unopposed for May’s election. Current Board President Charles Moser is unopposed for Position One, while Jim Kolkhorst is the lone candidate for Position Two.  Position Two is currently held by Atwood Kenjura, who is also not running for re-election.

Today (Friday) is the filing deadline for the election on May 4th.  Early voting begins April 22nd.
