A Bryan firefighter, severely injured over two years ago, is back at work.

Rickey Mantey Jr. returned to work Tuesday, more than two years after he was severely burned during a fire in February of 2013 at the Bryan Knights of Columbus Hall.

The fire department says Mantey is on light duty for now, and will not be fighting fires for now, but will help lead a new training program.

Fellow firefighter Mitch Moran was also injured in that blaze. Lieutenants Gregory Pickard and Eric Wallace were killed battling the fire.

Mantey, a native of Somerville who now lives in Caldwell, has several more surgeries to go, but plans on returning to full duty.

  1. Such wonderful news to see Rickey Mantey has been able to return to work. I know he and his family have been so strong throughout the regaining of his health. Prayers still for those who lost loved ones in the fire. May God’s grace be with Rickey, as he continues his surgeries. Blessings, also, on his immediate family and extended families, as they have always been there and stood so strongly during his recovery.
