HIGHWAY 290 EAST CLOSURE BEGINS MONDAY NIGHT IN LEE CO. FROM CALDWELL STREET TO HIGHWAY 77

Starting tonight (Monday), a portion of Highway 290 East in Lee County will be closed for railroad crossing repairs.

At 10 p.m., TxDOT will close the Highway 290 East mainlanes in both directions, from Caldwell Street to Highway 77 in Giddings.  The closure will last overnight until Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., to allow crews to repair and upgrade the Union Pacific Railroad crossing west of Highway 77.

Detours will be in place during the closure, with police officers onsite to help direct drivers.  Eastbound traffic on Highway 290 will turn south at Caldwell Street, east on Hempstead Street, and north onto Highway 77.  Meanwhile, drivers headed west on Highway 290 will turn south on Highway 77, west on Hempstead Street, and north on Caldwell Street.

Local traffic should seek alternate routes.   Drivers on Highway 77 should expect delays.  All drivers should obey signage and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
