HIGHWAY 36 TO BE WIDENED BETWEEN SEALY AND WALLIS

The Texas Department of Transportation is in the planning stages to widen Highway 36 between Sealy and Wallis.

TXDOT has announced that it will widen the road, along with several other projects, using its portion of a   $47 million dollar share of Proposition 1 funds approved last fall by voters.

Passing lanes will be constructed on approximately 8.5 mile section of Highway 36, costing approximately $11.4 million.

Construction is expected to begin later this year.

Texas Transportation Commission approved $1.74 billion in statewide highway projects at its Feb. 26 meeting in Austin. The projects are a result of the passage of Proposition 1, a state constitutional amendment approved by 80 percent of Texas voters in November.

In Colorado County, passing lanes will be constructed on an approximately eight-mile section of U.S. Hwy. 90A between Eagle Lake and the intersection of Hwy. 71 in Altair. The project is estimated to cost $6.8 million.
