HIGHWAY 36 WIDENING EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN FEBRUARY

TxDOT has awarded a contract to add two lanes to the Highway 36 Loop between the U.S. 290 West cloverleaf and Business 36 North.

Work is expected to begin in February on widening of a stretch of the Highway 36 Loop that the department deems “dangerous”.

That portion of road is currently a two-lane, undivided highway with no turn lanes. It has had a number of fatal accidents over the years.

It will be improved to a four-lane divided highway with a grass median. Two new bridges will also be added.

The contract has been awarded to Angel Brothers Enterprises – the projects low bidder at $14.3 million.

TxDOT resident engineer Mark Shafer says the department hasn’t had a reconstruction meeting yet, but are anticipating construction to get underway sometime in February.

The contract has a 21-month completion period.

The project was one of the top priorities in TxDOT’s Long Range Rural Transportation Plan.

  1. Didnt we just pay for all of that work for the light that is on 36 north. Now we are going to tear all of that up again. Why didn’t they do it all at one time. Seems pretty stupid to me.

      1. When you come from Somerville and where you can either go left to Downtown Brenham or loop around past Washington Animal Clinic to go to Highway 290. I like it! Forget the cost when it comes to saving lives. I can’t wait till its completed !

If more folks would stay in tune to what is happening in the County, they would have read and hopefully remembered that in the designing of the current configuration of the exchange was planned to coincide with the future upgrade of the project in discussion above. So in conclusion it is not “petty stupid to me ” as mention above and needs to ”keep head out of sand” and pay mor attention to what’s happening in the area!
