HOST OF LOCAL ACTIVITIES ON TAP FOR THE WEEKEND

  

A slew of activities highlights the finals days of Spring Break 2016 in Washington County.

The antique carousel will be open at Firemen’ Park, both Saturday and Sunday.

The carousel will be in operation Saturday from 11-to-4 and Sunday from 1-to-4.  Rides are $1.00 each.

Washington-on-the-Brazos will be hosting several activities for the family.

Living History Saturday will allow the public to travel back in time to 1836.  Staff and volunteers dressed in period clothing bring to life the people and events of Old Washington that led to the birth of the Republic of Texas. The program features activities suited for the entire family.

The program, “Beasts of Burden: Draft Animals at Work”, is an opportunity to experience draft animals at work.  Various aspects of field preparation using horses, mules and oxen will be demonstrated, at the Barrington Living History Farm by the Texas Draft Horse and Mule Association.

Downtown Brenham is hosting its Step into the Past: Brenham Historical Tours from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm., Saturday.

The tours include:

The Barnhill Center at the Simon Theatre, where the public may see The Dawn of Washington County in the upstairs ballroom, on the hour, every hour from 10:00 to 4:00. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.

Also included in the tour are: The Glissmann Drug Store Museum, the Brenham Fire Museum and Toubin Park – admission to all three is free.

Brenham Heritage Museum has new exhibits and three short movies which have been added to the gallery for Step into the Past. New interactive activities for children are popular. Admission to the Museum gallery is $3 for adults and $1 for children.

And, this Saturday is “Movie Night” at the Historic Simon Theatre.

The classic adventure film “Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be shown in the Hasskarl Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
