ICY WEATHER CAUSES NUMEROUS POWER OUTAGES

This morning's wintery weather left some people in our area without electricity.  At 10:30 this morning Will Holford with Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative reported that they had 34 outages in Washington county affecting 1,970 members.  At 3 this afternoon that number was down to 17 outages affecting 216 members.  He reports that Bluebonnet crews continue to work as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power.

Shortly after 8 this morning, the Brenham Fire Department responded to a report of tree limbs smoking after contacting power lines near Clinton and Pecan streets.  Icy conditions also forced the Texas Department of Transportation to shut down US 290 between FM 577 and FM389 where the newly completed overpasses on the south end of town had iced over.  Traffic was routed onto the feeder roads until the highway reopened about 1pm today.
