JC PENNEY BRENHAM LOCATION TO CLOSE

J.C. Penney plans to close approximately 40 stores in 2015, about 4 percent of the chain's total stores, and one of the stores closing will be the Brenham JC Penney location on Market Street.

The Brenham store is the only one slated in Texas to be closed, which involves about 20 full time and part time workers, who, the company says will offered career training classes, and the company has said that some employees will be eligible to receive separation benefits.

The store closing is surprising to some, just as the company had reported rising sales during the Christmas shopping season.

A total of about 2,250 jobs will be lost nationwide, and most of the stores affected will be closed by April 4.

When contacted, Brenham store manager Harle Lyons said that he is not able to give a comment on the store closing.

According to a company media relation manager Sarah Holland, "We continually evaluate our store portfolio to determine whether there's a need to close or relocate underperforming stores,'' said company media relations manager Sarah Holland. "Reviews such as these are essential in meeting our long-term goals for future company growth. While it's never an easy decision to close stores, especially due to the impact on our valued associates and customers, we feel this is a necessary business decision."

  1. I really hate to see people lose their jobs, Their really is not any place for people ( especially men) to buy clothes in Brenham. This will be a loss to the people of the Brenham area.
