JOE ROUTT JR. NAMED TO CORPS OF CADETS HALL OF HONOR

  
Joe Routt Jr. (Class of '37)

A native of Chappell Hill has been inducted into the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor.

Captain Joe Routt Jr., class of ’37, was inducted posthumously, along with nine others, Saturday night in College Station.

Routt was commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduation from A&M and went on active duty in the United States Army in March of 1942.

As an infantry officer in World War II he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  He was a captain and company commander in the Netherlands when he was killed in action in December of 1944.

Routt was also Texas A&M's first All-American football player, a recognition he received in 1936 and 1937.  He played guard and was captain his senior year.  He was a third-round pick in the NFL draft by the Cleveland Rams.

The annual award for Brenham High School’s top football player is named after Joe Routt.
