LCRA RESERVOIR PROJECTS

The Lower Colorado River Authority is planning a new reservoir near the Texas coast.

The Board of Directors approved spending $17 million on the next phase of the reservoir at a recent meeting.

LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said the new reservoir is ‘vitally important’ to the region and the additional funding will keep the project moving along.

The LCRA is planning to build the first new reservoir in the basin in decades on the main channel of the lower Colorado River, near Lane City in Wharton County.  It would add 90,000 acre feet a year to the LCRA’s firm water supply, increasing the water supply by about 15 percent.
