A day after being found guilty of murder, a Grimes County man has been sentenced to life in prison.

45-year-old James Daniel “Danny” Green of Bedias was found guilty Tuesday for the first degree murder of Jason Currie of Madisonville. A jury heard evidence Wednesday, and assessed his punishment at a life sentence.

Green, along with 26-year-old Colton Joe Manning of Madisonville, were charged with the murder of Currie in the summer of 2016.

According to a release from the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, Currie’s body was reported missing to law enforcement by friends and family on June 25, 2016. After a three-week investigation, a partial skeleton of his body was found in a remote creek bed on July 13th.

Green detailed a confrontation to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, confessing he and Manning shot Currie at a private deer camp. A friend of Currie was present at the time and witnessed the murder, but was able to escape in a truck.

Green had a range of punishment of 25 years to life in prison, due to his past felony convictions and incarceration. He was on parole out of Madison County for burglary at the time of the offense.

The jury handed up a life sentence Wednesday after testimony regarding Green’s past criminal history and felonies committed after the murder of Currie and before his arrest for the crime.

Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender said this verdict and sentence gives “a measure of justice” to Currie’s family. She said her office looks forward to the trial setting for the co-defendant Manning later this year.
