LOCAL NON-PROFIT HOSTING 2ND ANNUAL SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

A local organization is doing its part to get Brenham and Burton students ready to go back to school.

For the City is putting on its second annual community-wide school supply drive throughout the month of July.

For the City founder Tori Bryan said several local organizations, such as Faith Mission, CASA for Kids, and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, have nominated students they believe to be in need of school supplies. She said so far, nearly 1,000 students have been nominated.

Those looking to contribute can do so by purchasing a $5 supply grab bag from H-E-B to donate to the school supplies drive account. Free will donations can also be sent to For the City by mail, at 1717 Lauraine Street in Brenham.

Bryan said, in addition to corporate sponsors, For the City is looking for volunteers at the August 3rd school supply market.

Last year, the drive raised school supplies for 600 students, with 300 attending the school supply market.

Bryan said the drive is atypical from other drives in that actual school supplies, aside from backpacks, will not be accepted.

Bryan said anyone who simply prefers to give a physical item can donate a backpack at drop boxes available at City Hall and the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

For those interested in learning more or becoming a sponsor for the event, they can go online to https://forthecity.center, or visit For the City on Facebook.
