Local Pastor Gary Jeter passed away Tuesday morning in a College Station hospital after a brief fight with cancer.  Jeter was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer only 3 weeks ago.  He was pastor of Brenham’s First Christian Church for the past 28 years and produced the First Christian Church program heard on KWHI on Sunday evenings.  Rev. Jeter also served on the Board at Faith Mission and was involved in many of their projects including the Cannery Kitchen and the Health Service Center.

Pastor Jeter is survived by his wife of 5 years, Darlene Jeter; dad, Horace Jeter; daughter Terri Deonne Littlejohn and her husband Rory Littlejohn from Bryan, Texas; son Gary Leon Jeter II and his wife Corrine Jeter from South Padre Island, Texas; daughter Sherri Yvonne Desern and her husband Walter Desern from Brenham, Texas;  twelve grandchildren: Isaac, Jacob, and Caleb Littlejohn; Aaron, Kaitlyn, Jaclyn, Jonathan, and Shannon Jeter; Joshua, Cassandra, Michael, and Timothy Desern; and one great-granddaughter, Callie Caye Desern with one on the way, Arriana Avery Desern.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith E. Jeter; son, Tracy Don Jeter; and mother, Lois Jeter.

Rev. Jeter’s funeral is Friday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Brenham.   Visitation will be Thursday, September 4 from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

  1. Tuesday morning we lost a great man. Gary was always there to greet you with a smile and always had a helping hand out for you. he married my wife and I and was a great friend. A truly honest and kindhearted man will love in his heart. May you shine down from Heaven and we will always have a place in our hearts for you. Till we meet again, Love you Buddy!!

  2. I have known pastor Jeter for over 20 years. He actually married me and my husband. He was a dear friend and a loving person. He will be missed by all.

  4. Pastor Jeter baptized my son in the First Christian Church. He was a kind and gentle Saint, a True Man of God. My condolences to the Jeter family and the congregation of the First Christian Church of Brenham.
