MAIFEST ROYALTY MEETS GOV. GREG ABBOTT

Brenham’s Maifest Royalty traveled to Austin on Wednesday and met with Governor Greg Abbott during a special ceremony.

During the meeting, which was coordinated by Senator Lois Kolkhorst, Gov. Abbott read a proclamation recognizing the historical importance and cultural significance of the Brenham Maifestival.

Senator Kolkhorst also recognized the Maifest Royalty from the Senate floor.

The Maifest Royal Court this year includes: Senior King Jacob Pyle, Senior Queen Gracie Westerfeld, Junior King Sam Clepper and Junior Queen Victoria Dippel.

“The current royalty gets to visit the Governor every year” says Heather Thielemann, President of the Maifest Association. “It was a really fun day for them.”

With a little over six weeks until Maifest, Thielemann says they are right on track in their preparations for the festival:

The Brenham Maifestival will be held May 5-6 this year at Fireman’s Park beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m. with music, children’s activities, festival food and drinks.

The Great Thomas Carnival will run this year from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. Rides and games for all ages will begin at 5:00pm Thursday and Friday nights and start up again at 11:00am on Saturday morning. Sunday’s carnival will open at noon.

The Junior Coronation will be held Friday evening with young children participating in an elaborate outdoor ceremony which provides entertainment and the presentation of the Junior King and Queen. Live bands featuring some of Texas’ best new talent will begin at 5:30pm and continue throughout the evening on Fireman’s Park main stage. Plenty of food, “German soda water” and wine will be available in the Bier and Wine Gartens.

On Saturday, the Maifestival opens immediately following the 10:30am downtown Maifest Parade. The festival at Fireman’s Park features a German Village showcasing Brenham’s heritage and the Kinder Village with activities for our young visitors.

The Senior Coronation will be held Saturday evening in Fireman's Park with former royalty and high school students providing entertainment for this outdoor event.  The culmination of the Maifest Celebration is highlighted by the presentation of the Senior King and Queen.  Another full night of fun, live music, food, drink and good friends will ensue.

There is no admission charge to the grounds for the festival. Tickets are required for the Junior and Senior Coronations, the carnival and some children’s activities. For more information, visit maifest.org.
