MAJOR ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 6 NORTH OF NAVASOTA

  

Update #2: The driver of the pickup has been identified as 59-year-old Daniel Sweeten.  Sweeten was airlifted to CHI St. Joseph Hospital with serious injuries.  There have been no updates on his condition.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 44-year-old Teresa Ramirez, suffered no injuries.

 

Update: A driver was injured after a fiery accident that occurred this (Wednesday) afternoon north of Navasota.

The crash was reported around 1:30 p.m., on Highway 6 Northbound by the Navasota River bridge, headed towards College Station.  A pickup truck hauling a trailer collided into the back of an 18-wheeler, which was carrying long pipes.

According to Navasota police, the semi-truck was stopped on the side of the highway before pulling into the path of the pickup, which was trying to merge back onto Highway 6.

The driver of the pickup was reportedly able to escape the vehicle before it caught fire.  The victim was taken by helicopter to CHI St. Joseph Hospital, with serious injuries.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area, and to expect delays.  Northbound traffic is closed, as of 4:15 p.m., and is being exited at 2154.

A crash involving an 18-wheeler was reported around 1:30 p.m., on Highway 6 Northbound by the Navasota River, headed towards College Station.

Smoke from the scene of the crash could be seen from around downtown Navasota.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.  Northbound traffic is closed, and will be exited at 2154.
