The New England Patriots have announced that they’ve reached a deal with former Brenham Cub and first-round draft pick Malcom Brown.

The contract is reportedly worth $7.6 million over four years. Half of that amount is guaranteed.

Brown, a 6’ 2”, 320 pound defensive tackle from the University of Texas, was selected as the last pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Brown was a consensus first team All-American, as well as a finalist for the Outland Trophy and the Bronko Nagurski Award.

Brown is the first Cub picked in the first round, since the late Wilson Whitley was selected by Cincinnati as the eighth overall pick in 1977.

Brown is targeted to succeed Pro-Bowl tackle Vince Wilfork, who signed with the Houston Texans in the offseason.

While at Texas, Brown proved he could be effective at all positions on the defensive front and says he’ll fill whatever role the Patriots need from him.

Brown left UT a year early partly because he wanted to provide for his family — he’s married with two young daughters. It appears as though he's well on his way to accomplishing that.
