A Grimes County man suspected of robbing a Dollar General store in 2017 has been arrested in Huntsville on an aggravated assault warrant.

21-year-old Dante Owens of Bedias was charged with Aggravated Robbery after authorities accused him of robbing the store in Bedias at gunpoint on January 13, 2017.  He was arrested last week by Huntsville police, after they found him in a vehicle outside the Quick Pic Liquor store in the 1000 block of MLK Drive.

Huntsville police officers said they noticed the smell of marijuana when approaching his vehicle, and were given a fake name when they asked for identification.

Owens was determined to have multiple arrest warrants, including an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge from March, where the suspect was reported to have lost a finger.  Officers noticed the missing finger and matched Owens with the description of the offender.  Police found a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana when searching his vehicle.

Owens was charged with Failure to Identify a Fugitive and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, along with the outstanding warrants for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Aggravated Robbery.  His bond in the Walker County Jail is set at $47,000.

  1. I guess he was out on bond. What a judicial system we have, next time he might really hurt someone. Or worse.
