McCAUL COMMENTS ON BORDER SECURITY BILL

With no deal insight on the Texas border crisis, House Republicans passed a symbolic hastily assembled border security bill that gets tough on illegal immigrants but which Senate Democrats are certain to reject.

The GOP leaders and their Tea Party wing rallied around a beefed up $694 million border bill. The vote came on the first day of a scheduled five week congressional break making it unlikely the Senate will even consider the bill until September.

Representative Michael McCaul commented on the passage the House bill that should help stem the influx of unaccompanied children crossing the border.

McCaul said, “The bills passed by the House today are the best chance we have to stop this crisis in months, not years.” McCaul says that changing the law to ensure the swift and humane return of those who come to the United States illegally is the only way to stop the exploitation of these children.
