MCCAUL VOTES AGAINST DEBT CEILING RAISE

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 285 to 144 to approve re-opening the government and raising the debt limit.  District 10 Congressman Michael McCaul, was in the minority.

The local  congressional representative released a statement last (Wednesday) night explaining why he voted against re-opening the government and raising the debt limit.

McCaul said that ‘this bill ignores the catastrophic defects inherent in Obamacare, does nothing to reform our unsustainable entitlements programs or Washington’s out of control spending.’  McCaul went on to say the bill ‘misses the point.’  The congressman said again that the national government is $17 trillion in debt and that it was time to ‘cut up the maxed out credit cards.’

McCaul also reminded his constituents that he had voted 46 times to repeal, defund delay  or dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which he called this ‘monstrosity of a law.’

McCaul said the House should have passed a package containing entitlement reforms, spending cuts, and a repeal of the medical device tax.

Neighboring Congressional Representative Bill Flores, representing Brazos County, also voted against the government reopening bill.  He released a statement saying the bill allows the government to borrow more without any ‘much needed reforms.’

Flores did say that on the positive side, the legislation adheres to the ‘post sequester discretionary spending.
