MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM TO FEATURE U.S. NAVY VETERAN GUEST SPEAKER

C “Norm” Brawner, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1972, will serve as guest speaker for the Memorial Day Program at Fireman’s Park on Monday.

Brawner served as an E-5, Machinist Mate 2nd Class, and his overseas service included a tour in Vietnam in both Blue Water Navy on the Cruiser UDD Galveston, and Brown Water Navy on the PBR’s out of DA Nang. He also complete two Mediterranean Tours on the USS Galveston. He earned his National Defense, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service, and Good Conduct Medals.

Norm is currently retired at twenty-three years in the oil industry and eleven years in the Telecommunications industry. He and his wife have also owned a retail business for sales, service and restorations of coin-operated game equipment for twenty years.

Brawner and his wife have been active with the VFW and Ladies Auxilary for 15 years.

During his fifteen years of leadership in the VFW, he served as Post Commander, District Commander, and Post Quartermaster three times each. He has been an All American District and Post Commander, as well as Post Quartermaster. He has been an All State District and Post Commander twice, and Post Quartermaster three times. His 2nd year as District Commander he was all All Honor Roll District Commander.

The Memorial Day Program will begin at 11am, with KWHI’s coverage beginning at 10:45am.
