A memorial musical tomorrow (Thursday) in Brenham will celebrate the life of an advocate of local student-athletes.

The first annual Christy Michelle Young Memorial Scholarship Musical will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Mount Seriah Missionary Baptist Church Campus, at 1006 West First Street.

The one-hour musical will feature national recording artist Tamesha Pruett-Ray, the New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church Praise Team, Pastor Damon Kallie and the Covenant Praise Team, and Christian rapper Var Gee. Refreshments will be served.

Young passed away last October at the age of 43. Born in Brenham, Young graduated from Somerville High School in 1993 and from Blinn College in 1997.

After graduating from the University of Houston – Downtown in 2004, Young returned to Blinn in 2005 and worked her way to the position of Director of Financial Aid. She was a mentor to many students and athletes, and was recently named the 2018 Blinn Buccaneer Backer of the Year.  She is survived by her 17-year-old son Jyron Davis, who is a senior at Brenham High School.

Blinn board trustee Randy Wells says, in Young’s memory, Blinn College will establish the Christy Michelle Young Memorial Scholarship, to be administered in the fall and spring semesters.

Checks can be made out to the Blinn College Foundation, memo Christy Michelle Young Memorial Scholarship.
