MORE TIME NEEDED FOR BELLVILLE MAIN STREET PROGRAM

The Bellville Economic Development Corporation will need more time to pursue plans for its Texas Main Street Program.

The BEDC expressed interest in the program, but with the deadline for applications being July 31st, there would not be enough time for them to move forward with plans.

BEDC board member Garrett Dornon said the board was not able to get all of its questions answered about the project, but he believes there is a lot of flexibility with the program.  Reesa Ueckert, who serves on the committee, said the city could have saved at least $20,000 on the Turnverein project, had the Main Street Program been in place already.

Both Brenham and Sealy have benefitted from their participation in the program.  Bellville would have a fulltime Texas Main Street Director on its payroll for three years, should the city apply and be approved.
