NAVASOTA CANCER SURVIVOR TO SPEAK AT RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT

A Navasota cancer survivor will be the keynote speaker at the Grimes County Relay for Life Survivor/Caregiver Dinner, Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Navasota.

Barry Byers will speak on his journey with cancer during the dinner.  Byers has been involved with Grimes County Relay since 2010, both as a competitor and as a member of the Relay For Life event leadership team.

Shelly Hazel, the Event Lead for the Relay For Life of Grimes County says Byers, “…is a wonderful man with a great story to tell of his own battle … He is the first person from Navasota to become a ‘Hero for Hope’.”

Byers’ debut speaking engagement came during the 2015 Grimes County Relay For Life event.

The Relay For Life of Grimes County event is to honor those currently fighting cancer and those that have won the battle against the disease. Survivors are encouraged to bring a caregiver to the event.

This year’s Relay For Life of Grimes County will be held Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Grimes County Fairgrounds. Registration is open for survivors, participants, and teams.
