NAVASOTA FREEDOM FESTIVAL TO CONTINUE AS PLANNED

The first-ever Navasota Freedom Festival will go on as planned.

Monday, the Navasota City Council held a special meeting to discuss the status of Saturday’s event in relation to Governor Greg Abbott’s recent executive order restricting large gatherings without permission from local governments.

After discussion from councilmembers, Mayor Bert Miller declared the festival would still go on, saying he will “count on the public to do the right thing for their fellow man”.

Miller will follow with a proclamation including safety guidelines for the event.  Social distancing will be encouraged at all times, and face coverings will be highly recommended.

Saturday’s event will begin at 11 a.m. with a parade and conclude with fireworks at 9 p.m.

More details on the event can be found at www.navasotafreedomfestival.com.  KTEX-106’s Blake Hickerson will be in Navasota Saturday morning, broadcasting live from the friendly country cruiser.

  1. This may be the dumbest public decision I’ve seen. You’re going ahead with a PUBLIC EVENT just as this pandemic is turning Texas into a HOTSPOT?!? You trust Texans to “do the right thing”? Heck, we wouldn’t be in this situation if people knew to do the right thing.

Encourage & recommend masks? Sure, we’ve seen how well that works.

Expect a spike in that area about mid-July.

    1. A crowded public event sanctioned by the Navasota city government! And then some of those from that crowd will come to Brenham spreading COVID-19! Large public gatherings cannot be expected to “social distance” themselves nor wear face masks. The same with bars and clubs. Nobody goes to a bar or club to isolated themselves away from other people! This was not a decision made with the public’s well being in mind.
