Jason Lowery (Grimes County SO)

A Navasota man has been charged with aggravated assault after an altercation last week.

30-year-old Jason Darel Lowery, of Navasota, was charged with second-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the Navasota Police Department, officers were called out to Magnolia Plaza just before midnight last Wednesday, in response to a physical disturbance.  Officers arrived to find a crowd of around 50 people standing near the south parking lot on Doris Street.  A man was seen on the sidewalk with a large wound on the right side of his face, and blood on his face and shirt.

Witnesses said that Lowery hit the victim in the head with a handgun, rendering the man unconscious.  The victim was taken to St. Joseph's in Navasota with non-life threatening injuries.  Lowery has been taken into custody.

Police also arrested 38-year-old Frederick Erin Thomas, of Victoria, at the scene for unlawful carrying of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor.

  1. Certainly that’s not all they charged with? When a weapon of any sort is used to strike someone (Especially In The Head) The charges should escalate to attempted murder, or assault and battery with a deadly weapon. I’m not sure who’s running what, but there’s too much, or not enough information being released to the public.

    1. The second paragraph says he was charged with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon. That’s a second degree felony.
Attempted Murder is also a second degree felony.
There’s no crime in Texas called “assault and battery with a deadly weapon”.
